However, due to unforeseen circumstances, his family relocated to Emahekeni, where they eventually settled.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eHis father was Sgodo, and his grandfather was Ngobobo. While he does not remember much about his forefathers, he knows of family members such as Ngobobo, Thiyane, Dungamanzi, Nqakamatshe, Nodudul’ibhunu ngesibhakela, and Njakazana.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eHis mother was Makhumalo Likiyeni, and his maternal grandfather was Mjoji Khumalo, who left him a piece of land where he built his home.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFana’s siblings are:\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eDumazile, who married into the Ndlovu family and currently resides in Gauteng.\u003cbr\u003ePhindile\u003cbr\u003eBongani\u003cbr\u003eMato\u003cbr\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFana was raised by his grandfather, Mjoji Khumalo. As a child, he helped his father with road construction for the local bus service before the roads were tarred. At the time, there was only one bus in the area, owned by an Indian businessman called Mr. Prema, also known as Kopane. This bus transported people from Cornfields to Mtshezi (now Estcourt).\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMjoji Khumalo was a community leader and the founder of the main road in the area. He built the road himself without assistance until Fana stepped in to help. He did not receive any payment for his efforts; his work was purely out of love for his community.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eMjoji used to call Fana \"Paraffin\" because, as a young boy, he once mistakenly drank paraffin, thinking it was vodka. Fortunately, his family quickly gave him milk, which helped him expel the paraffin from his system, preventing any serious harm.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFana also described the traditional farming methods they used. As a young boy, he was not afraid of cows and would control them by pulling a rope tied to them while following his father’s whip signals and verbal instructions. This guided him on whether to Plow from the back or expand the field.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eHe began attending Cornfields Primary School at the age of eight. His daily routine started at 4:00 AM, when he would lock away the calves, fetch the cows, and milk them, around 27 or more. His father would call their neighbour, Nathi Khoza, to assist. They often ended up with a large supply of milk and maas, which they shared freely with the community.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFana also recalled a counting method his father taught him for tracking the cows. He would carry small stones in his backpack. As the cows were corralled, he would count them in groups of ten, placing one stone on the ground for every ten cows counted.
