During her childhood she didn't live with her parents because they were employed as farm laborers in Richmond. Due to her parents absence, she was brought up by family members in Impendle. She then relocated to the Ngcobo famliy in KwaMafunze, KwaDindi, in a valley called Esinyameni to start Grade R. After completing Grade R, her paternal grandmother Agness Mbuqe, visited the Ngcobo family and expressed her desire for her to stay with her as she was living alone. For this reason, she moved to Eastern Cape and enrolled at Mcesane Junior Secondary School. Whilst in Grade 6, her grandmother passed away in August, prompting her to go back to KwaMafunze and complete Grade 7 at Nhlambamasoka Junior Secondary.

Moving from Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal posed language challenges, but Mrs. Mkhize, her IsiZulu teacher, was understanding, which allowed her to advance to high school. Mbuqe completed Grade 8 and 9 at Mlungisi High School, and Grade 10 to 12 at Indala High School in Richmond. Mbuqe had challenges enrolling in universities, she opted to find work in her community and landed a job at a furniture store in 2013. In late 2016, she made the choice to resign and focus on her education at TVET, where she registered for a Toursim Course. After finishing the course, she completed an internship at Richmond Byrne and District Musuem, and was later hired as an Assistant Curator.

Regarding the museum's history, Joseph Byrne notified the Queen in the 1850's that he had land available to accomodate her people during the time of depression in England. The Queen promptly paid for her people's passage. Upon arrival, some individuals stayed in Durban while others continued to the unfamiliar territory with Byrne. They were surprised to find themselves in a forest, where they had to erect everything from scratch. The museum building was constructed in 1882, originally owned by the Presbyterian Church. It was later converted to a museum due to Mr. Spencer's fascination with the Byrne Settler History.

Reports of looting in cities like Johannesburg and Durban were already broadcasted on the news. The next morning around 5 AM she heard what sounded like protesters demanding the release of Zuma. In an instant, they witnessed individuals transporting furniture, electonics, clothing and food. Several shops in Richmond were burnt down, with only one shop spared because of being closely monitored. Another survivor was a warehouse owned by Khwezi. After looting, life became challenging as individuals had to wait in lengthy lines for essential items, and unfortunately, certain businesses were unable to restart operations.

Mbuqe notes an uptick in museum visitors since she started working there, attributing it to people feeling represented.
