At a young age, Mnguni learned how to ride horses, and Tatazela became aware of his talent. For this reason, Mnguni went with Tatazela to Umtshezi for court appearances where he was responsible for looking after the horses. Mnguni characterizes Tatazela as a smart and dignified chief, mentioning his proficiency in Afrikaans and the way he was esteemed by the Umtshezi court judges. He also provided an illustration of Chief Tatazela's burial, highlighting that twelve men were chosen to carry his coffin, the coffin was placed close to the kraal upon arrival, the funeral took place at night, no tools were utilized, he was buried while sitting on his chair, wearing his complete traditional clothing, and interred with important items like African grass mat, isithebe, and Ukhamba.
